The Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim, part of the ruling Awami League Party, had come to Kolkata for a medical procedure on May 12.

Bangladesh Home Minister in a news conference in Dhaka has called this a 'planned murder' with serious insinuations. However it has been found that the killers were also Bangladeshi nationals who had most likely illegally infiltrated into West Bengal to carry out the political assassination. The motive behind the murder could not be ascribed. "We will soon let you know the motive" the Bangladeshi minister said, adding that the Indian police are fully cooperating in the investigation.
